April 22 (Reuters) - Tech firm Medallia CEO Joe Tyrrell has left the company and chairman of the board Mike Lipps is named interim chief, a company spokesperson told Reuters on Monday.

"Joe made the difficult decision to step away for personal reasons," Lipps, who is leading the search for a new chief executive, was quoted as saying in an email from the spokesperson.

Tyrrell's last day at the firm was April 19, the company spokesperson said.

Tyrrell took over as CEO in March last year, succeeding Leslie Stretch, who helmed Medallia to an initial public offering in 2019 and oversaw a $6.4 billion buyout by private equity firm Thoma Bravo two years later.

Medallia offers survey software to businesses and competes with Survey Monkey and Qualtrics. (Reporting by Yuvraj Malik in Bengaluru; Editing by Shilpi Majumdar)
