International litigation boutique Kobre & Kim announced today the opening of their San Francisco office. Leading the new office and the firm’s intellectual property litigation practice will be Michael Ng, who joins the firm as partner.

Michael is a highly-regarded trial lawyer who represents both plaintiffs and defendants in complex intellectual property litigation. He has led high-stakes patent cases resulting in the recovery of hundreds of millions in royalties for his clients, and has defended against claims of infringement leading to full dismissal or swift resolution on favorable terms. In addition to patent cases, he has represented parties in trademark, trade dress, copyright and trade secret matters, as well as related licensing and royalty disputes.

In discussing his transition to the firm, Mr. Ng commented, “I have been fortunate for many years to represent clients from around the world on a range of intellectual property matters. Joining Kobre & Kim will enhance my ability to provide top-quality service both in San Francisco and internationally, and I am looking forward to working with the firm’s incredible lawyers while building our Bay Area team.”

The new location in San Francisco will provide clients with direct access to a litigation team based in one of the largest technology and financial markets on the West Coast, while maintaining the availability of the firm’s international resources that have earned the firm the reputation as the premier boutique for high-profile, multi-jurisdictional disputes and investigations.

Commenting on the firm’s new location and the addition of Mr. Ng, co-founding partner, Steven Kobre, said, “We have seen a substantial increase in litigation involving technology and IP-heavy companies, particularly with regard to cross-border matters. The San Francisco location and Mr. Ng’s experience in the field adds another dimension to our purely litigation practice. The combination of these new capabilities and our globally based team of U.S. litigators, English barristers and solicitors (including three Queen’s Counsel), Hong Kong solicitors, and offshore attorneys, gives us expanded capacity to represent these clients in all aspects of their international disputes.”

With the opening of the San Francisco office, Kobre & Kim’s integrated global platform now includes four offices across the U.S., in addition to locations in Asia, Europe, and several offshore jurisdictions. Kobre & Kim focuses on special counsel engagements in complex high-profile disputes and investigations. This conflict-free profile allows the firm to litigate and arbitrate in the world’s leading jurisdictions for complex financial, corporate, onshore/offshore institutional and insolvency disputes as well as cross-border government enforcement, regulatory investigations and international judgment enforcement.
