- Global law firm K&L Gates has advised Indonesian state-owned mining company PT ANTAM (Persero) Tbk on a US$254 million turnkey engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) contract for the Haltim Ferronickel Plant Development Project with Wijaya Karya and Kawasaki Heavy Industries, Ltd.

The Haltim Ferronickel Plant Development Project is one of ANTAM's strategic projects with annual ferronickel production capacity of 13,500 tonnes nickel contained in ferronickel. The project is expected to complete at the end of December of 2018.

K&L Gates assisted ANTAM on the bidding process with multiple project bidders and advised on the negotiation, review and conclusion of the construction contract.

The K&L Gates team on the deal was led by Singapore partner Lian Yok Tan and involves Singapore partner Ashish Chugh and Hong Kong partner Christopher Tung. The partners were assisted by associates Bradley C. Lewis, Dominic C. M. Lau, Pawel Piotrowski, Daniel Shum, Sara Aparicio Hill, Aloysius Chang and Robert Houston.

K&L Gates previously advised ANTAM on its proposed US$1.8 billion development, construction and operation of a 1.2 Mtpa alumina smelter in Mempawah, West Kalimantan, Indonesia, and separately on an EPC contract with Sumitomo Corporation for the construction of a 2x30MW coal-fired power plant in the Pomalaa district, Southeast Sulawesi, Indonesia.
