As the Government launched its National Living Wage campaign, Ipswich Borough Council announced that its lowest paid staff would receive a £1 an hour MORE than the rate being introduced across the country next year.

The Borough Council confirmed that its own staff and contracted staff would earn at least the Living Wage Foundation rate of £8.25 an hour by 1st April.

The Government's National Living Wage becomes law in April and workers aged 25 or over will be entitled to at least £7.20 an hour.

Ipswich Borough Council Leader David Ellesmere said today: 'As an accredited Living Wage employer, both our own staff and contracted staff will receive the Living Wage Foundation rate of £8.25 an hour by 1st April. The Council believes a fair wage is not only good for employees and their families, it benefits the local economy, too.'
