Manufacturers' News, Inc. -- For a second straight year, industrial employment in New Hampshire posted a gain, reports the 2014 New Hampshire Manufacturers Register®, an industrial database and directory published by Manufacturers' News, Inc. (MNI) Evanston, IL. According to data collected by Manufacturers' News, New Hampshire gained 584 manufacturing jobs from November 2012 to November 2013 or a half percent.

Manufacturers' News reports New Hampshire is now home to 2,561 manufacturers employing 82,033 workers.

"Manufacturers in New Hampshire continue to make steady gains across a variety of sectors," says Tom Dubin, President of the Evanston, IL-based publishing company, which has been surveying industry since 1912. "With a highly-educated workforce and business-friendly environment, many companies are expanding and investing in its industrial sector."

According to MNI, industrial machinery ranks as the state's largest sector by manufacturing employment, accounting for 13,415 jobs, up 4.8%. Electronics ranks second with 11,676 jobs, down 3.9%. Third-ranked instruments/related products accounts for 8,854, down 1.7% over the year.

Industrial sectors reporting gains included rubber/plastics, up 11% and fabricated metals, up 10.4%. Within the fabricated metals sector, gun and ammunitions manufacturing saw the greatest increase, up 47% over the year, following the expansion of Green Mountain Rifle Barrel Company in Conway and the expected opening of a new Sig Sauer location in Dover. Firearms and ammunition manufacturers in New Hampshire currently employ 1,097.

Losses were seen in paper products, down 6.6%; furniture/fixtures, down 5.8%; lumber/wood, down 4.8% and transportation equipment, down 1.8%.

Manchester remains the state's top city for manufacturing employment, home to 8,144 jobs, down 1.5% over the year. Second-ranked Nashua accounts for 5,822 jobs, up 5.6%. Industrial jobs in Hudson declined 5.7%, with the city currently home to 4,127 jobs, while Londonderry accounts for 4,029 jobs, down 5.5%. Portsmouth accounts for 3,629 industrial jobs, virtually unchanged over the past twelve months.
