PLN is required to convert its diesel power plants to gas by 2022, which is expected to reduce its fuel consumption by 1.6 million kilolitres.

"We have to continue reduce our fuel consumption because of a new regulation that require us to move to gas," Abumanan told reporters.

In 2019, PLN consumed 2.6 million kilolitres of fuel, including 2.1 million kilolitres of biodiesel, which in Indonesia uses palm oil as feedstock.
