1.8% fewer persons in paid employment by natural persons than in the previous month

In November 2020, there were about 889,800 persons in employment in Slovenia, about 800 or 0.1% fewer than in October 2020 and 1.3% fewer than in November 2019. The number of persons in paid employment decreased by 0.1% (by about 900, to more than 794,800), while the number of self-employed persons increased by 0.1% (by about 100, to more than 94,900). Compared to November 2019, the number of persons in paid employment decreased by 1.7%, while the number of self-employed persons increased by 2.2%.

In November 2020, compared to October 2020, the number of persons in paid employment by legal persons decreased only slightly (to about 745,900), while the number of persons in paid employment by natural persons decreased by 1.8% (to about 49,000). Compared to November 2019, the number of the former decreased by 1.3% and of the latter by 8.4%.

In November 2020, compared to October 2020, the number of men in employment increased slightly (to more than 488,700), while the number of women in employment decreased by 0.2% (to about 401,000). A more detail overview shows that on a monthly basis the number of women in employment by natural persons decreased by 3.3% (to about 18,900) and the number of men by 0.8% (to about 30,100). Compared to November 2019, the number of the former decreased by 11.0% and of the latter by 6.7%. On a monthly basis in paid employment both decreased the most in accommodation and food service activities.

The overview by activity shows that in November 2020, compared to October 2020, the number of persons in employment decreased in fifteen and increased in five activities. It decreased the most in accommodation and food service activities and increased the most in manufacturing and in human health and social work activities (the former by 0.6%, to about 202,300, the latter by 0.9%, to more than 68,800).

In November 2020, compared to October 2020, the number of persons in employment in accommodation and food service activities decreased by about 1,500 or by 4.3% (to more than 33,300), while at the annual level it decreased by 12.2%. The decline was most noticeable in the age group 25-29. The number of persons in employment in accommodation and food service activities decreased on a monthly basis in all statistical regions (by employment), except in Zasavska, where it increased by 2.4%. It decreased the most in the Obalno-kraška statistical region; i.e. by 8.4% (to about 3,500). In November 2020, compared to the previous month, the number of women in employment in this activity decreased more than the number of men in employment (the former by 5.0% and the latter by 3.3%). At the annual level the number of women and men in employment decreased (women by 14.1%, men by 9.4%).

An overview by occupational groups shows that on a monthly basis the number of persons in employment in accommodation and food service activities decreased the most in the occupational group of waiters (by about 800 or by 6.8%), cooks (by about 200 or by 3.0%) and kitchen helpers (by about 100 or by 4.7%). The number of persons in employment increased the most in the occupational group of car, taxi and van drivers.
