Contest Winners from Des Moines, North Linn and Iowa City Focus on Benefits of E15

JOHNSTON, IOWA - The Iowa Renewable Fuels Association (IRFA) today announced Helena Gruensteidl of Des Moines won first place in IRFA's 6 Annual 'Fuel the Future' video contest for Iowa high school students. The IRFA awarded the senior from Des Moines Roosevelt High School a $1,000 grand prize for her creative and informative video titled 'Kirby's Future.'

Evan Boss, Brock Henderson, and Christian Moore of North Linn High School and North Linn FFA and won the $600 second place prize for their video entitled, 'North Linn FFA E15 Video.'

Hannah Song, a senior at Iowa City West High School, was awarded the $400 third place prize for her video entitled, 'Fuel the Future with E15.'

'I want to thank all of the Iowa high school students who took on the challenge of entering this year's contest and learning about the benefits of using renewable fuels, like E15 and biodiesel,' stated IRFA Communications Director T.J. Page. 'While all of the videos were fantastic, Helena's entry stood out for its entertaining storyline, and imaginative presentation of benefits of using homegrown, cleaner-burning E15.'

IRFA's 'Fuel the Future' video contest challenges Iowa high school students to create an entertaining and informative video highlighting the importance and benefits of E15 and biodiesel. This year's contest was sponsored by the BrownWinick Law Firm. In addition to receiving $2,000 in prizes, the top three videos were featured at today's 10th Annual Iowa Renewable Fuels Summit. Iowa is the nation's leader in renewable fuels production. Iowa has 43 ethanol refineries capable of producing 4 billion gallons annually, including nearly 55 million gallons of annual cellulosic ethanol production capacity. In addition, Iowa has 12 biodiesel facilities with the capacity to produce nearly 315 million gallons annually.

The Iowa Renewable Fuels Association was formed in 2002 to represent the state's liquid renewable fuels industry. The trade group fosters the development and growth of the renewable fuels industry in Iowa through education, promotion, legislation and infrastructure development.
