Fitch Ratings has announced the appointment of Peter Shaw, managing director, as head of Latin America, effective immediately. Gloria Aviotti, managing director, who previously led both Latin America and Fitch Solutions, will dedicate her time to Fitch Solutions exclusively.
Most recently, Peter was the regional credit officer for Latin America, a position he assumed in December 2010. Peter previously managed Fitch's Latin American Financial Institutions group.
'Peter is a veteran of our Latin American business and brings over 20 years' experience and knowledge to the role, including credit trends, domestic and regional capital markets, regional institutional investors, and the expanding interest of global institutional investors in the Latin American region,' said Mark Oline, managing director and global head of business relationship management. 'We are excited about what the future holds for Fitch in Latin America under Peter's leadership.'
Based in New York, Peter will report to Mark Oline.

Prior to joining Fitch in 2001, Peter was a senior vice president for Thomson Financial BankWatch, where he was the senior analyst for banks in Latin America from 1994-2001. He was a credit officer for Corestates Bank, with a focus on Latin America and Asia, from 1989-1994. Peter began his career in the Latin American correspondent banking division of the Irving Trust Company.
Peter earned a B.A. in American Studies from Colby College.
