FTSE 100 Seen Opening Higher on First Trading Session of 2023

0745 GMT - The FTSE 100 is expected to open 26 points higher on the first trading session of 2023 for London stocks, according to IG. The London stock market was closed Monday but other European stock markets were open, ending the session higher. "Trading in European markets was rather optimistic on the first trading day of the year, as European natural gas futures eased on mild weather," Swissquote Bank analyst Ipek Ozkardeskaya writes. The first week of the year will be marked with important data and events, which might give markets direction after weeks of slow trading, including the Federal Reserve's latest meeting minutes on Wednesday and the U.S. nonfarm payrolls report on Friday, she says.
