EL DORADO HILLS, CA--(Marketwired - Jan 26, 2016) - The Multicore Association™, a global non-profit organization focused on developing standards that help expedite time to market for products that involve multicore and manycore implementations, announced today that Express Logic has joined the consortium as a working group member, specifically to participate in the new Open Asymmetric Multi Processing (OpenAMP) working group. This working group will manage, expand, and standardize the OpenAMP Framework that will enable developers to deal with the challenges associated with controlling systems comprised of multiple operating systems and compute elements. The working group will also coordinate the efforts of the open source OpenAMP project.

"With its ThreadX/SMP, Express Logic already has many years of experience supporting multicore platforms. Taking it a step further, ThreadX can be used in an AMP or SMP multicore system, utilizing the Multicore Association's MCAPI with interprocessor communications support from PolyCore Software," said Multicore Association President, Markus Levy. "We look forward to Express Logic sharing its multicore and RTOS expertise with our OpenAMP working group."

"With the growing complexity of heterogeneous multicore platforms, the need for multiple operating systems has become essential, especially with the ability to have Linux running on one core and ThreadX or other RTOSes running on smaller and/or more real-time cores," said William E. Lamie, president & CEO of Express Logic. "We are eager to begin collaborating with the Multicore Association's OpenAMP working group to standardize and expand the capabilities of OpenAMP which will further enable multiple operating system support."

Express Logic's ThreadX is a pre-certified, commercial-grade RTOS boasting billions of deployments in the deeply embedded space. Many current ThreadX deployments are already multicore designs. The Express Logic collaboration with the Multicore Association on OpenAMP delivers a reliable, commercial-grade interprocessor option to a vast number of customers and applications.

The Multicore Association provides three levels of membership: executive board, working group, and university. Executive board members help determine the overall direction of the organization. Working group and university members are eligible to participate in any of the working groups.
