November 2012 compared with October 2012
Industrial producer prices down by 0.2% in both euro area and EU27
In November 2012, compared with October 2012, the industrial producer price index1fell by 0.2% in both the euro area2(EA17) and the EU272, according to estimates from Eurostat, the statistical office of the European Union. In October3prices rose by 0.1% in both zones.
In November 2012 compared with November 2011, industrial producer prices gained 2.1% in the euro areaand 1.9% in the EU27.

Monthly comparison
In November 2012, compared with the previous month, prices in total industry excluding the energy sector fell by 0.1% in the euro areaand remained stable in the EU27. Prices in the energy sector fell by 0.7% in the euro areaand by 1.1% in the EU27. In both zones, intermediate goods decreased by 0.2%, while capital goods gained 0.1%. Durable consumer goods increased by 0.1% in the euro areaand remained stable in the EU27. Non-durable consumer goods rose by 0.1% in the euro areaand by 0.2% in the EU27.
Among the Member States for which data are available, the largest decreases in the total index were recorded in Greece(-0.9%), Lithuania, Hungaryand Portugal(all -0.6%), and the highest increases in Denmark(+0.7%), Belgium(+0.6%) and Ireland(+0.4%).
Annual comparison
In November 2012, compared with November 2011, prices in total industry excluding the energy sector increased by 1.5% in both the euro areaand the EU27. Prices in the energy sector rose by 4.1% and 2.9% respectively. Non-durable consumer goods gained 2.3% in the euro areaand 2.6% in the EU27. Intermediate goods rose by 1.4% in the euro areaand by 1.2% in the EU27. Durable consumer goods gained 1.1% in both zones. Capital goods increased by 1.0% in the euro areaand by 0.9% in the EU27.
Among the Member States for which data are available, the largest increases in the total index were observed in Bulgaria(+6.4%), Cyprus(+5.6%), Belgiumand Romania(both +5.3%), and the smallest in Austria(+0.3%), Hungary(+0.6%), Malta(+0.9%) and the United Kingdom(+1.1%). The only decrease was recorded in Sweden(-1.6%).
The index of producer prices shows (in the national currency of the country concerned) changes in the ex-works sale prices of all products sold on the domestic markets of the various countries, excluding imports. Euro area and EU indices refer to overall weighted price changes. The figures are not adjusted. Missing observations from Member States for recent months are estimated for the calculation of the euro area and the EU.
