The main areas of EU support to Guinea Bissau are: conflict prevention, water, energy and general budget support for macro-economic stability.

The EU has allocated €102.8 million to Guinea Bissau under the 10th European Development Fund (2008-13). The aims are to:

  • strengthen state structures,
  • improve governance,
  • prevent conflict and encouraging national reconciliation,
  • extend the use of hydroelectric and solar energy and guaranteeing its distribution in urban areas, its
  • promote macroeconomic stability.

Additional aid will help implement the Economic Partnership Agreement (EPA) with West Africa.

All EU projects in Guinea-Bissau address cross-cutting issues such as gender, child protection, the environment and support for non-state actors (NSAs).
