The EU Emissions Trading System is discussed in the Climate Change Committee, where the EU Member States are represented and deal with the issue to protect the integrity of the system after the United Kingdom leaves the EU.

The United Kingdom notified the Committee the advance of the conformity deadline for 2018 emissions to 15 March 2019, that being before their withdrawal from the EU and in accordance with the amendment to the EU ETS Registry Regulation. The allowances issued for this year will be not marked and will be accepted.

This news follows the previous amendment in November by the EU MS which included measures that limited the use of allowances issued by the United Kingdom. The so-mentioned amendment was made without the intention to prejudice further agreements in the negotiations between the EU and the UK.
