Countries across Asia and the Pacific face different issues when it comes to energy; from being carbon intensive, lacking supply or poor access. Regional cooperation is crucial for countries in order to achieve the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, reduce their carbon footprint and maintain energy security. To meet these challenges countries of Asia and the Pacific during the 71 st Commission Session of ESCAP established the Committee on Energy. The first session of the Committee will meet to begin developing a regional approach to overcome common energy challenges.
Additionally, during a roundtable discussion at the Committee, ministers will share their visions and strategies on energy for sustainable development as well as their expectations on what the Committee can accomplish to guide the region towards a more sustainable future.

To inform the deliberations of the Committee, ESCAP is also organizing a one day policy dialogue on energy for sustainable development which will bring the public and private sector to discuss potential policies to support the transition towards sustainable energy.
