Destatis - Federal Statistical Office of Germany : Number of agricultural holdings on the decline

bWIESBADEN- In Germany, 285,000 holdings cultivated almost 16.7 million hectares of utilised agricultural area in 2013. As the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) reports on the occasion of the "International Green Week" consumer fair held in Berlin, the number of agricultural holdings holdings fell by about 5% compared with the 2010 census of agriculture. In contrast, the utilised agricultural area remained nearly the same. As a consequence, the average size of agricultural holdings increased from 56 hectares to 59 hectares.
