GroundFloor Media (GFM), a Denver-based marketing communications agency, was recently awarded a five-year contract from Denver Parks and Recreation (DPR), Forestry Division to help create and implement a public education campaign about the Emerald Ash Borer (EAB). GFM’s work for the EAB campaign will include campaign development, media relations, community engagement, social media and partnership cultivation.

After moving across North America, EAB, a non-native insect, was found in Boulder in 2013. EAB, if not proactively managed, could destroy Denver’s population of ash trees within 15 years. In an effort to mitigate the impact of the EAB, DPR will activate a campaign designed to educate residents about the invasive species, how they can take action to stop it from spreading and what can be done to treat and manage potentially impacted trees.

“Ash trees in Denver can be found throughout residential properties, public rights-of-way, parks and green spaces,” said Rob Davis, Denver City Forester. “These ash trees perform important functions, including cooling the landscape and mitigating air pollution and storm water runoff. It is critical we activate a public awareness campaign to help stop the infestation of Emerald Ash Borer in our community, and we’re happy to partner with GroundFloor Media on this effort.”

“We are very excited to work with Denver Parks and Recreation’s City Forester’s Office on this program, as our team members are passionate about preserving the urban canopy in and around the Denver area,” said Ramonna Robinson, President of GroundFloor Media. “We have a talented team of individuals experienced in creating and carrying out public awareness campaigns for a variety of causes, and we look forward to leveraging that experience to engage the community in this important issue.”
