MPs publish findings of dairy industry review Published 20 January 15

In its report on dairy prices published today (20 January), the Environment, Food and Rural Affairs Committee concluded there was no single solution to the current issues facing the UK dairy industry.  In a review of evidence provided by key industry organisations and stakeholders, it has identified the following actions which could assist the industry:

  • encouragement of the spread of Producer Organisations,
  • a review of the EU intervention price for milk,
  • clearer regulation on the labelling of dairy products,
  • closer attention to the impacts of rapid and sharp shifts in price on the industry, and
  • extension of the Groceries Code Adjudicator's role to cover indirect suppliers (i.e. dairy farmers).
