With consumer spending habits indicating higher average check dining on the rise, executives at J. Gilbert’s, a five-unit fine-dining franchise known for its welcoming Midwestern culture and unrivaled wood-fired flavor, is maximizing on opportunities to expand through franchising in major markets, such as Washington, D.C., Philadelphia, Atlanta, Chicago, Dallas/Fort Worth, South Florida and St. Louis.

Traffic at restaurants with a $40 check average has increased 11 percent over the past three years, according to a recent study conducted by NPD Group. Industry experts are also noting key growth drivers including consumer check averages trending higher, increased business travel and investors gravitating toward higher profit margins at dinner-only restaurants.

“Based on an improving economic climate, there’s tremendous growth potential in targeting higher average check dining,” said Bob Hartnett, CEO of Houlihan’s Restaurants, Inc. “Multi-unit operators are seeking simplified operations with maximal unit sales. Because franchise locations are expected to open for dinner only, with check averages around $56 and proven management systems in place that boast low rates of hourly employee turnover, J. Gilbert’s offers attractive prime costs for potential franchise partners.”

J. Gilbert’s is already serving some of the best steaks in town at its five current corporate-owned locations. Communities and critics alike have consistently voted the locations, ‘Best Steakhouse,’ ‘Diners Choice’ on Open Table, and recently, ‘Restaurant of the Year’ in McLean, Virginia and ‘Best Overall Restaurant’ in Hartford, Connecticut. The Kansas City-inspired steakhouses also showcase full bars that offer an extensive selection of premium alcoholic beverages, including more than 90 wine labels and J. Gilbert’s signature barrel-aged Manhattans, aged on premise in oak barrels.

“J. Gilbert’s has established itself in a unique niche of the fine-dining category by offering an upscale experience with a down-to-earth, modern atmosphere,” Hartnett added. “We will remain committed to this distinctive identity through further expansion, seeking full-service, multi-unit operators with expertise in high-volume operations in one or more large markets.”
