Today at the 2014 International CES,Conexant Systems Inc., an audio and imaging innovation leader, ushered in the next generation of its high-performance far-field voice input processor system-on-chip (SoC) designed specifically for Smart TVs - the CX2092x. Conexant's new chip utilizes third generation voice processing technology to deliver superior voice control with excellent speech recognition hit rates and voice communications with increased clarity in far-field conditions - up to four meters away from the TV. LG - one of the largest TV manufacturers in the world - is the first to adopt the CX2092x, and will implement it in its 2014 TV lineup.

When it comes to audio quality, expectations are at an all-time high. Technologies such as Ultra HD have conditioned consumers to expect the highest quality picture when watching TV - and they now have the same expectations for voice quality. These heightened expectations, coupled with consumers' increasing desire to use voice as a user interface in a wide range of applications, are driving the need for smarter audio solutions.

The new chip is part of Conexant's AudioSmartTM solutions and offers a highly accurate, robust way to control TVs with voice - unleashing the full capabilities of Smart TVs by making advanced control and search much more efficient than traditional push button remote controls. With an industry-leading low-power, small footprint speech recognition engine running within the chip, the CX2092x can always be listening for a wake-up voice command while the rest of the TV is powered off. The CX2092x executes this 'always-listening' mode in an ultra low-power state enabling TVs to comfortably meet worldwide energy standards for standby power.

According to LG, the ability to do this, combined with echo cancellation that allows users to talk to the TV while it is on from anywhere in the room, within four meters, sets the CX2092x apart from the competition. As a leader in Smart TV innovation, LG's objective was to develop the highest performance voice controlled TV on the market. Conexant offers the industry's best voice processing solution and is the only company that can provide all of these features in the far-field range.

Conexant's AudioSmart solutions offer the optimum mixed signal and DSP technology for high-fidelity voice and audio processing. Products such as the CX2092x recognize that voice is a natural extension of the user interface.

Key features include:

  • Fully-integrated Wake-on-Voice solution with embedded third party speech recognition engine
  • Excellent speech recognition hit rate and clear voice quality
  • Compatibility with multiple leading speech recognition vendors
  • Reference design with pre-tuned "hidden" microphone module for industrial design esthetics and performance
  • Dual 24 bit ADC and microphone preamp with independent microphone bias supply

"This marks the third consecutive year that tier one TV manufacturers have turned to us for our innovative far-field voice processing technology," said Saleel Awsare, Conexant vice president and general manager. "In the future, the concept of a smarter audio experience will apply to much more than TVs. Conexant's audio solutions with far-field technology will allow people to control everything from their tablets to home appliances using only their voice."

The AudioSmart CX2092x is part of the Conexant Smart TV portfolio. The CX2092x is available in a 60-QFN package. EVKs are currently available to qualified customers and partners for $500. Pricing starts at $5.18 each in 100K quantities. Please visit www.conexant.com for more details.
