From 6th to 8th February 2017, ILO's Bureau for Workers' Activities (ACTRAV) is holding a conference at the ILO's headquarters in Geneva on communication challenges and strategies for strengthening trade unions.

Communication officers and activists from 25 trade union organizations from Africa, Europe, Asia and the Pacific, the Arab States and the Americas as well as representatives of international trade union federations will meet to discuss and share their experiences of trade union communication.

The conference will address issues involving the recruitment and mobilization of workers, how to strengthen the influence and image of trade unions at the national and international levels, and the trade unions' commitment to achieving the objective of decent work for all.

The participants will identify and analyse the challenges and opportunities and strategies for trade unions to adopt around several themes, notably:

  • Communication, organization and the mobilization of workers;
  • Awareness-raising and trade union campaigns;
  • Social networking and new technologies;
  • ILO and the trade union organizations.
The conclusions of the conference will form the basis of a training manual on communication for trade union organizations.

Several ILO officials will take part in the conference. You can follow the work of the conference on the website or on Twitter ( #UnionComms; #ComunicaciónSindical; #CommunicationSyndicale).
