The Thursday conversation between Prime Minister Szydło and Minister Steinmeier took place on the initiative of the German side. Earlier on the same day, Minister of Foreign Affairs Witold Waszczykowski talked to head of the German Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The arrival of Minister Steinmeier in Warsaw wa a revisit. In November 2015, the head of the Polish Ministry of Foreign Affairs paid a visit to Berlin.

Prime Minister Beata Szydło discussed with Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier EU issues, e.g. energy and security policy, including the preparation for this year's NATO summit in Warsaw. The meeting was also devoted to the eastern policy and bilateral relations between both countries, in particular the 25th anniversary of the Treaty on Good Neighbourship and Friendly Cooperation. Furthermore, the situation of Poles living in Germany was discussed.
