The first of its kind for the school, this major gift -- and the five-semester-long housing design and research initiative conceived with faculty and leaders at the City College of New York -- all serve to underscore CetraRuddy's commitment to advancing residential architecture and urban design for housing.
The new initiative, called "CetraRuddy Design Studio in Housing: Exploring New and Established Modes of Living and the Meanings of Home," will be part of the Masters of Architecture program at The City College of New York's Bernard and Anne Spitzer School of Architecture beginning in January 2017. Going beyond the university's classrooms, the housing design studio for Master of Architecture candidates will also create and publish new housing research. Students and faculty will present the results publicly in an exhibition and an academic symposium, as well as through publications, a blog, and housing workshops. In addition, CetraRuddy's gift includes internship placements for selected students.

Both attended the CCNY's School of Architecture and remain ardent supporters of the 420-student architecture program, the only such public program in New York City. Ruddy and Cetra serve on its Dean's Advisory Board, and they were honored in 2009 with a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Spitzer School. Conceived by Cetra and Ruddy in 2016, the CetraRuddy Design Studio in Housing extends for five semesters beginning with the spring 2017 session. The faculty leaders for the project are Bradley Horn, an associate professor and director of the Masters of Architecture Program, along with the associate professors June Williamson and Fabian Llonch.
