Stocks in Canada gained Monday, as the S&P/TSX Composite Index increased 1.4% to 21848.59. The blue-chip S&P/TSX 60 added 1.4% to 1,304.84.


Among large companies, Africa Oil Corp. was the biggest gainer during the session, surging 10%, and Hammond Power Solutions Inc. Cl A surged 8.1%. Birchcliff Energy Ltd. rounded out the top three movers on Monday, as shares surged 6.5%.

Bitfarms Ltd. posted the largest decline, dropping 9.9%, followed by shares of Galaxy Digital Holdings Ltd., which dropped 6.0%. Shares of Osisko Gold Royalties Ltd. dropped 5.4%.

Stock indexes in the U.S. ended mixed with the Dow Jones Industrial Average gaining 0.67%. Meanwhile, the S&P 500 Index dropped 0.3%, and the NASDAQ Composite Index declined 1.1%.

On the currency front, the WSJ Dollar Index declined 0.2% to 100.14. Locally, the dollar was equivalent to CAD0.73, up 0.2%.

In the bond markets, the yield on 10-year Canadian government bonds declined 0.96 basis point to 3.340%, and 10-year U.S. Treasury yields fell 0.02 basis point to 4.235%.
