Hospital information technology provider Healthland has been chosen by the Southern Humboldt Community Healthcare District and its Jerold Phelps Community Hospital as their partner for a major financial and clinical technology enhancement. Healthland Centriq, a fully integrated suite of solutions across the continuum of inpatient, financial, ambulatory and emergency department services, was chosen to help the District provide quality care to its community more effectively and efficiently.
Located about four hours north of San Francisco, the Southern Humboldt Community Healthcare District (SHCHD) is focused on overall community health – often called “population health” – for residents of southern Humboldt and northern Mendocino counties through hospital, clinic and skilled nursing services.
According to the district’s CEO, Harry Jasper, “We chose Healthland because we see them as a true partner and leader for the future of rural healthcare. We chose them to advance our information technology program in the areas of financial management, revenue cycle, clinical information and overall Electronic Health Records management.”
Jasper said that his community-owned organization often works with like-minded rural health providers around the country, and went outside its community for help in evaluating technology partners, including visiting Healthland installations in other rural communities.
“Our review of several technology vendors took about a year -- both inside our own organization, plus seeking input from several other Healthland Centriq users,” Jasper pointed out.

While the district had experience with Healthland’s legacy financial offering, it is significantly expanding its technology platform. Jasper added that like most U.S. hospitals, his organization has been challenged by the federal Meaningful Use technology standards.
“We’ve seen other organizations similar to ours achieve Meaningful Use attestation in partnership with Healthland, so we signed on Healthland as our partner for our drive to achieve Meaningful Use attestation and federal incentives,” he said.
