The EFTA Surveillance Authority (ESA) has today approved the renewal of and amendments to an Icelandic aid scheme offering resilience grants to eligible companies and self-employed individuals.

The resilience grants scheme provides direct grants to eligible businesses and self-employed persons across all sectors that have incurred COVID-19 related losses.

ESA first approved the scheme inDecember 2020. It aims broadly to contribute to businesses'continued economic activity, and secure preparedness for when the pandemic situation returns to normal. The scheme was amended and prolonged inMay 2021, and expired at the end of 2021.

Today's renewal allows businesses and self-employed individuals who missed the previous application deadline to apply for financial aid for the month of November 2021. Beneficiaries must demonstrate that they have lost income as a result of COVID-19-related restrictions. The application deadline is 1 March 2022 to receive aid for the month of November 2021. No aid will be granted after 30 June 2022.

The aid will be administered by Iceland Revenue and Customs.

ESA's decision is available here.
