BURSA MALAYSIA DERIVATIVES AND FUTURES BROKERS PREPARE UNIVERSITY STUDENTS FOR A GLOBAL COMMODITY TRADING CHALLENGE

Bursa Malaysia Derivatives (BMD) together with OSK Investment Bank and Philip Futures will be preparing university students to compete in an international electronic derivatives trading game, known as "Commodity Trading Challenge". The training session started today and will be held for three days including tomorrow and 23 January 2013.

The event is an annual competition organised by CME Group and supported by BMD to educate and raise awareness on derivatives trading. This initiative is aligned with BMD's corporate social responsibility on educating the young and is achieved though meaningful university partnerships. This will be the second year that BMD is hosting the universities for the Commodity Trading Challenge, scheduled for 4 February to 15 March, 2013.

Participating in the program are undergraduate and postgraduate teams and they will be "vying" for a paid summer internship with Chicago Mercantile (CME) Group in Chicago. The Malaysian universities battling it out are University Malaya, International Islamic University, University Technology Mara and University Tunku Abdul Rahman and come from diverse disciplines which include Finance, Accountancy, Business Management, Actuarial Science and Mathematical Science.

Chong Kim Seng, Chief Executive Officer of Bursa Malaysia Derivatives said, "This program is helping to shape and nurture futures traders. Given our partnership with the CME Group in our derivatives business, this event provides just the right mixture of exposure to global futures trading".

The students will have the opportunity to learn from industry experts and experience what is like to be futures traders. They will be coached on derivatives contract specifications, fundamental and technical analysis, trading strategies and familiarisation with a global Order Management System to execute trades.
