Students at American School for the Deaf will participate in a School Choice Week Celebration that includes a choreographed dance performance to Justin Timberlake’s “Can’t Stop the Feeling.”

The event begins at 10 a.m. on Friday, January 27 at the school located at 139 North Main Street in West Hartford. The American School for the Deaf (ASD) is the oldest permanent school for the deaf in the United States and will celebrate its 200th anniversary in April. The school serves 190 students in grades K-12.

The goal of the event is to celebrate great education choices in Connecticut and raise awareness among parents about school choice. The celebration is timed to coincide with National School Choice Week (January 22-28, 2017), which will feature more than 21,000 events across the country.

"American School for the Deaf is participating in National School Choice Week because education helps students adapt and evolve and become, all ways able,” said Liza Alers, Dance Club instructor and long-term substitute teacher.

Held every January, National School Choice Week is an independent public awareness effort designed to shine a positive spotlight on effective education options for every child. Through more than 21,000 independently planned events across the country, National School Choice Week raises public awareness of all types of educational choices available to children. These options include traditional public schools, public charter schools, public magnet schools, online learning, private schools, and homeschooling.
