SANTA CLARA, Calif., Jan. 21, 2014 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- All Stars Helping Kids' Board of Directors voted unanimously to extend a third cycle of seed funding to four Bay Area startup nonprofits who work to disrupt the cycle of poverty for disadvantaged youth. Alpha Public Schools, Wishbone, Upward Roots and One Degree each received $25,000 for the 2014-2015 fiscal year for a total of $75,000 per organization since entering All Stars' program. The grants were presented to each Executive Director on December 19, 2014 by All Stars Executive Director (Nellie Lee) and Program Manager (Megan Holston-Alexander).

All Stars Helping Kids was founded 25 years ago in 1989, when NFL Hall of Famer and 49er legend Ronnie Lott gathered his friends for a dinner to benefit the local community. Astounded that he had raised $100,000 in one night, Ronnie invested the money in several nonprofits that were fighting poverty in the South Bay. Ronnie Lott, Founder and Chairman of the Board, Karen Lott and Kiwoba Allaire, Board of Directors, were present for this year's check presentation luncheon.

All Stars finds, vets, invests in, and monitors startup nonprofits changing the lives of low-income youth in the Bay Area. Their model pairs cash grants with ongoing coaching, mentorship, and connections to a network of supporters. For 25 years, All Stars has used the simple formula of raising money and redistributing it to create opportunities in education, health and fitness, and life skills for disadvantaged youth. In addition to $100,000 for startup nonprofits, All Stars Helping Kids also granted $50,000 to two legacy partners, Eastside College Prep and UCSF Benioff Children's Hospital.
