JAKARTA, 21 January 2014 - In a courtesy call on the Secretary-General of ASEAN, H.E. Le Luong Minh today; The Ambassador of Iraq to Indonesia, H.E. Abdullah Hasan Salih stressed that Iraqi Government praised the dynamic development in ASEAN both in political-security and economic fields, and expressed its high interest in forging cooperation with ASEAN. He informed SG Minh that currently Iraq exports 3.5 million barrels of crude oil daily, but Iraq seeks to invest in other fields such as infrastructure and agriculture in ASEAN.

In welcoming the new Iraqi Ambassador to Indonesia, SG Minh conveyed that ASEAN is open to cooperation in all areas with friendly countries, including Iraq. Both ASEAN and Iraq could explore the possibility of forging closer cooperation in the areas of petro-chemical, fertilizer, agriculture and other potentials of both parties.

Ambassador Salih also expressed his keen interest in applying for his accreditation to ASEAN.
