AFMA Australian Fisheries Management Authority : Recreational Member sought for South East Management Advisory Committee (SEMAC)

The Australian Fisheries Management Authority (AFMA) is seeking applications for the position of Recreational Member on the South East Management Advisory Committee (SEMAC). A member for a term commencing February 2017 to 30 June 2019 in line with other SEMAC member appointments is required.

Management Advisory Committees are statutory bodies that provide AFMA with management advice. Members are appointed by, and report to, the AFMA Commission on relevant policy and operational matters relating to the management of Commonwealth fisheries, including setting catch and effort levels, fishing gear, fishing closures and other issues. MAC advice is used to inform AFMA's management decisions and records from past meetings can be found at afma.gov.au.

Who should apply for MAC membership?

Appointments to MACs are based on relevant expertise. The role of the Recreational Fishing Member is to:

• contribute recreational/charter fishing knowledge and expertise to MAC deliberations
• advise the MAC on recreational/charter fishing developments of relevance to the particular fishery
• advise on any implications that MAC deliberations and recommendations may have in relation to recreational/charter fishing considerations.
