Mr. Kapanke was elected president in July 1987, prior to the formation of the ELCA Board of Pensions in January 1988.
He is steering committee chair of the Church Alliance, a coalition of chief executive officers of church pension and welfare funds, acting on behalf of church benefit programs.
The Church Alliance is an ecumenical organization that monitors federal and state legislative and regulatory activities that affect church employee benefit programs.
He is a member of Mount Olivet Lutheran Church in Minneapolis, where he serves on the Church Council and chairs the Investment Committee of the Mount Olivet Endowment Fund.
Mr. Kapanke has a bachelor’s degree in business administration from the University of Wisconsin at LaCrosse, and holds an honorary doctor of humane letters from Newberry College.
