Gustav Humbert
Profile
Gustav Humbert was appointed Airbus President and Chief Executive Officer in June 2005.
Prior to this appointment he was Airbus’ Executive Vice-President Programmes, a role he held from March 2004 as well as Chief Operating Officer, a position he assumed from July 2000.
Dr Humbert has also been a member of Airbus’ Executive Committee since July 2000.
Gustav Humbert began his professional career in 1979 as a visiting professor in the department of Mechanical Engineering at McGill University in Montréal.
Upon his return to Germany in 1980, he joined the Transport Aircraft Division of Messerschmitt-Bölkow-Blohm (MBB) in Hamburg - now part of Airbus in Germany - as assistant to the Head of the Manufacturing Division.
From 1983 to 1990 Dr Humbert held several positions in the field of MBB’s Transport Aircraft Division.
In 1990, Dr Humbert was appointed Head of the Hamburg plant of Deutsche Aerospace Airbus (DASA), MBB’s successor, and from January 1994, he was President and Chief Executive Officer of Daimler-Benz Aerospace Airbus, as DASA was then known, which became DaimlerChrysler Aerospace Airbus in 1998.
In this function, he was also member of the Board of Management of DaimlerChrysler Aerospace (DASA) from 1998.
Dr Humbert is a member of the Executive Committee of EADS and holds several honorary functions in the industry, such as a member of the senate of the “Helmholtz-Gemeinschaft”, the biggest research institution in Germany.
Gustav Humbert, was born in Celle, Germany in February 1950.
He holds a degree in mechanical engineering and production technology from Hannover Technical University as well as a PhD in engineering from the University of Hannover, School of Machinery.
Gustav is married and his leisure time he enjoys hiking, sports and reading literature on contemporary history.
