Biography:
Charlayne Thornton-Joe is a third generation Victorian.
She attended the University of Victoria where she received her Bachelor of Arts degree in Pacific and Asian Studies.
She has been employed in the Hospitality Industry since 1979.
Charlayne has a "passion for serving people" and has been active in the community by volunteering as an Board Member for the Victoria Women's Transition House, Interim Executive Director in 2001 for the BC Lion's Society for Children with Disabilities, and as well, with her husband Phil, has co-chaired the Vancouver Island's 24 Hour Relay.
Charlayne was also a director of the Chinese Consolidated Benevolent Association, and on the Board of the Inter-Cultural Association of Greater Victoria - three years as President.
She has been a member of the Victoria Chinatown Lioness Club since 1991, and has served four terms as President.
She has also sat on the Victoria Downtown Advisory Committee, the Victoria Police Diversity Committee, the Victoria Rediscovery Society, and the Victoria Twin City Advisory Committee.
Leisure:
Charlayne enjoys spending time with family and friends, and going on long walks with husband Phil, and their Alaskan Malamute, Akela.
