Apple's latest iOS 17.5 update for iPhone appears to have brought with it an annoying bug. Indeed, several users report that old photos have suddenly reappeared in their photo library. Often these are even photos that were deleted years ago.

In the news: Since early this week, you can install on your iPhone the latest update of the mobile operating system. The update in question is iOS 17.5. This update brings some new features, but unfortunately also an annoying bug.

The details:

  • On Reddit, via MacRumors, several users report that old photos are suddenly visible again in their iCloud. In many cases, these are photos that were deleted years ago. Several users are coming up with a similar problem.
  • In each case, it involves a few old photos that are suddenly re-uploaded as if they were completely new. "I have four photos from 2010 that keep reappearing as the newest photos uploaded to iCloud. I deleted them repeatedly," someone reported.
  • There were also reports of a similar bug in the beta version of iOS 17.5.

For now, it is unknown exactly how big the bug is and what caused it. Since deleted photos are basically only available for 30 days more, the fault may not lie with users.

  • It is possible that the cause lies with another bug that Apple has been trying to fix. Namely, in iOS 17.3, some users were suffering from an error when syncing photos. In an attempt to fix that, Apple may have created a new syncing bug in iOS 17.5.
