Shares of industrial and transportation companies rose as traders rotated into cyclical sectors.

Shares of Boeing slipped after the Federal Aviation Administration opened a new investigation into the jetmaker following reports that some of its 787 Dreamliner jets missed inspections.

Boeing will launch its new space craft on a manned mission later Monday.

"It's only the sixth time in history astronauts have used a new spaceship," said J.D. Joyce, president of Houston financial advisory Joyce Wealth Management.

"It could help Boeing's reputation if it goes well," Joyce said.

Stifel Financial's North Atlantic Capital will channel financing to help small companies invest in 3-D printing through a government-supported program aimed at tackling supply-chain challenges and accelerating military production.

Li Auto shares rose after the Chinese electric-vehicle maker said discounted models sold well in the latest quarter, ramping up the competitive pressure on U.S. rival Tesla.

Liquid metal battery developer Ambri, which is backed by Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates, has filed for bankruptcy, blaming a challenging fundraising environment and disputes with a landlord and construction contractor.
