Apple sold 10 percent fewer iPhones last quarter, something analysts had anticipated. Sales totaled $90.75 billion versus 90.75 billion spring expected. Apple further reported $23.64 billion in net profit, down 2 percent from last year.

In the second quarter of 2023, Apple still had sales of $94.8 billion.

Actually, only Macs saw a small growth of 4 percent, but the other products were down, even 17 percent for iPad.

iPhones sales were $45.96 billion. Mac sales were $7.5 billion versus $6.86 billion expected. iPad sales ended at 5.6 billion versus 5.91 billion estimated. Other products such as the Apple Watch accounted for $7.9 billion versus $8.08 billion expected. Services sales were 23.9 billion.

China saw a contraction of about 8 percent for total sales of $16.4 billion. In the first quarter, sales in China still contracted nearly 13 percent.

According to new data from research firm Canalys, Apple has already been driven from first place to fifth in the smartphone market. In the first quarter, Apple shipped 10 million units, down 25 percent year on year. This gives Apple a 15 percent share of the Chinese smartphone market, Huawei, Oppo, EER and Vivo taking the first four spots.

There seems to be little interest in the Vision Pro headset launched early this year. Apple has cut its Vision Pro shipments for 2024 to 400,000 to 450,000 units, where 800,000 were initially expected. The headset is pricey and requires calibration.
