MADRID (Reuters) - Spain's BBVA on Monday said its first quarter net profit rose 19% from the same period in 2023 thanks to a solid performance in Mexico, its main market.

The lender booked a net profit of 2.2 billion euros ($2.36 billion) in the January to March period, compared to 1.85 billion euros in the same period last year.

Analysts polled by Reuters expected a net profit of 2.06 billion euros.
