BPA Remains Critical for Aligning IT Efforts with Business Initiatives

WATERLOO, ON - 2012-01-18 - OpenText's (NASDAQ: OTEX, TSX: OTC) Business Process Solutions (BPS) group today announced that OpenText-Metastorm has been positioned in the Leaders quadrant of the 2011 Magic Quadrant for Business Process Analysis Tools report published by David Norton on December 12, 2011.

The Gartner 2011 Magic Quadrant for Business Process Analysis Tools research report evaluates vendor solutions in a particular market segment based on their completeness of vision and ability to execute. According to the report, "Process modeling as part of BPA is becoming a starting point for a growing number of business process management (BPM) and compliance projects, and helps avoid the rush to execution that often results in poor BPM ROI or failure. Conversely, most BPM projects start with tools that include process modeling in support of workflow, and add a BPA tool to better understand their processes and simulate process changes."

"It is clear that BPA continues to be a critical component for achieving process improvement goals within organizations," said Kamran Kheirolomoom, General Manager, OpenText, Business Process Solutions. "We believe our Leader position in the BPA Magic Quadrant, together with our Leader positions in the most recent Magic Quadrant for Enterprise Architecture Tools1 and the Magic Quadrant for Business Process Management Suites (BPMS) 2, is reflective of our commitment to and success in delivering solutions that actually help organizations align their resources to drive better business outcomes as they execute their corporate strategy. This ability to execute is especially critical today as businesses continually strive to differentiate and increase their strategic advantage while constantly having to adapt to dynamic market conditions."

As part of the Business Process Analysis Tools assessment, Gartner evaluated OpenText's (Metastorm) ProVision, a comprehensive solution that allows organizations to discover, model, analyze and optimize their business processes. Offered through the OpenText Business Process Solutions (BPS) group, ProVision provides deep enterprise and business architecture capabilities that allow organizations to better understand how their business processes can be improved to support broader enterprise goals and strategies. Customers consistently select ProVision for its ease of use, built in methodologies, wide array of industry reference models and support for both business and IT perspectives, all of which ensure rapid time to value for customers. Customers are further benefitting from ProVision's rich simulation and analysis capabilities, enabling them to achieve continuous process improvements.

Organizations seeking to transform their business operations achieve better results by integrating their EA, BPA and BPM disciplines because they all share the common focus of enabling business change in the context of an organization's strategy. Enterprise Architecture identifies the requirements or areas preventing an organization from executing against its strategy. BPM can then be used to create an operational solution to close those execution gaps. Leveraging the two together, companies have a clearer picture of which BPM projects will have the greatest impact on their ability to execute and can more accurately allocate resources to BPM initiatives. BPA enables companies analyze and then further optimize those business process improvements. Connecting and coordinating these activities is the key to closing the gap between strategy and execution.
