TORONTO — Five things to watch for in the Canadian business world in the coming week:

Conferences

The annual Collision tech conference heads to the Enercare Centre in Toronto this week. Speakers include artificial intelligence pioneer Geoffrey Hinton, tennis star Maria Sharapova and Indigenous rights activist Autumn Peltier. Toronto will also play host to the Canadian Telecom Summit.

Homes sales

The Canadian Real Estate Association will release Monday its figures for home sales in May. The number of homes changing hands in April fell compared with March, while the number of newly listed properties rose to kick off the spring market.

Nuvei shareholder vote

Nuvei Corp. will hold a special meeting of shareholders on Tuesday to vote on a deal that would see the company be taken private. The payment technology firm announced a plan earlier this year to be taken private by U.S. private equity firm Advent International, alongside existing shareholders Novacap, CDPQ and Nuvei chair and CEO Philip Fayer, in an agreement that valued the company at US$6.3 billion.

Bank of Canada deliberations

The Bank of Canada will release Wednesday its summary of deliberations for its interest rate decision earlier this month when it cut its key policy rate by a quarter of a percentage point to 4.75 per cent. Bank of Canada governor Tiff Macklem has said if inflation continues to ease, it is reasonable to expect further cuts, but that the central bank is taking its interest rate decisions one at a time.

Retail trade

Statistics Canada will release Friday its figures for retail trade in April. The agency's advance estimate released last month suggested that sales increased 0.7 per cent in April following a 0.2 per cent decrease in March.
