Hands-on installation training helps protect parking structures against de-icing salts

MISSISSAUGA, ON, January 21 2012-- BASF Canada's Constructions Chemicals division recently wrapped up a two-day training course on the proper application of deck membranes. More than 50 of the company's contractor customers gathered at an underground parking garagemade available by Homestead Land Holdings Limitedin Oakville, ON.

Annually, Canadian parking garage owners spend hundreds of millions of dollars repairing and protecting the structural slabs in their parking structures from deicing salts. An integral part of this process is the installation of traffic bearing membranes and expansion control systems on intermediate slabs to keep deicing salts from penetrating the structure.

BASF's Construction Chemicals division is a leader in the restoration and protection of parking structures, and offers a comprehensive systems approach to meet the complex challenges of rehabilitating and enhancing parking structures for the long term. This approach includes developing a complete strategy, utilizing integrated high performance products and providing support through project completion.

Attendees included installers of BASF systems such as Sonoguard® and Conipur® II Deck Coatings, who were provided the opportunity to practice methods and techniques to improve the quality of deck coating projects. They also learned about potential installation failures, enhanced site safety procedures and tips for increasing production efficiency and improving detailing work.

"In recent years we have noted that the quality of installation and finishing of traffic toppings have significantly varied from job to job," said Paul Hanratty, Parking and Restoration Specialist, BASF Canada. "This training will have long-term benefits for our customers by increasing their production rates, equipping their staff with best practice, and by delivering more aesthetically pleasing structures to owners. The training was very well received and is something we will definitely repeat in the future."
