Today, Chris Warkentin, Member of Parliament for Peace River, on behalf of the Honourable Lynne Yelich, Minister of State for Western Economic Diversification, announced federal funding for upgrades to the Grande Prairie Ski Club under the Harper Government's Community Infrastructure Improvement Fund (CIIF).

"I am proud to see the Grande Prairie region benefit from our Government's support for community infrastructure," said MP Warkentin. "This investment will help create jobs, growth, and long-term prosperity for the Grande Prairie community while leaving a lasting legacy of improved local infrastructure."

The Harper Government's investment of $55,515 will help the Grande Prairie Ski Club make upgrades to the Nitehawk Recreation Area's chalet and pump house. The project will include the replacement of roofing, utilities, windows, and a kitchen, increasing the longevity of the facility.

"Nitehawk Recreation Area truly appreciates the investments the federal government continues to make in our community," said Duane Stevenson, General Manager for the Nitehawk Recreation Area. "Federal assistance goes a long way in providing upgrades to our chalet, strengthening our economy and increasing the quality of life for residents in Peace Country."

In Economic Action Plan 2012, the Harper Government announced further support to help communities across the country modernize their infrastructure. Our Government committed $150 million over two years for the Fund. The Fund supports projects that look to improve existing community infrastructure accessible for use by the public, such as community centres, recreational buildings, local arenas, cultural and other community facilities.

Since 2006, the Harper Government, through WD, has invested in job-creating small and medium-sized businesses, aerospace, marine and defence industries, and supported innovative entrepreneurs in pursuing emerging markets. By continuing to promote new economic opportunities, WD is helping to create jobs, economic growth, and long-term prosperity.
