1. Expertise of dinar banknotes

In 2013, 4,294 counterfeit banknotes were detected from among suspect counterfeits, down by 28.3% from 2012 (5,986 pieces) or 44% in nominal terms (RSD
5,826,780.00 in January-December 2013 vs. RSD 10,409,650.00 in the same period of
2012). Table 1 shows the denomination structure of detected dinar counterfeits.

Chart 1 shows the distribution of individual denominations in total detected counterfeit dinar banknotes. Namely, 500-, 1000- and 2000-dinar banknotes accounted for 92.5% of all detected counterfeits.

As illustrated in Chart 2, the number of 1000-dinar counterfeits was on a constant decline from 2009 to 2013.

In value terms, 1000-, 2000- and 5000-dinar banknotes, being the three largest denominations, made up the bulk and accounted for 89.04% nominally (Table 2 and
Chart 3).

As at 31 December 2013,
279.9 million pieces of dinar banknotes (RSD 148.4 billion) were in circulation (Table 3) - 15 in every 1 million dinar banknotes were found to be counterfeit, i.e. there were RSD
39,259 counterfeits in RSD 1 billion of circulating cash.

2. Expertise of foreign currency banknotes



In the course of 2013, 861 counterfeit foreign currency banknotes were detected from among suspect counterfeits, down by 15.9% from 2012 (1,024 pieces). Table 4 shows the currency and denomination structure of detected foreign currency counterfeits.

In 2013, 558 counterfeit euro banknotes were detected, down by 38.8% from 2012 (912 pieces). Chart 4 gives the distribution of the most frequent counterfeits - of 50,
100 and 200 euros, over the last four years.

In the same period, 273 counterfeit US-dollar banknotes were detected, rising almost threefold from 95 pieces in 2012. The 100-dollar banknote was the most frequent counterfeit. Chart 5 shows the trend in 100-dollar counterfeits

over the last four years.

The item 'Other' in Table 4 relates to counterfeit foreign banknotes of five currencies: the pound sterling (9 pieces), German mark (5 pieces), Bosnian convertible mark (6 pieces), Swiss franc (9 pieces) and Croatian kuna (1 piece).
In nominal terms, the share of individual currencies in total detected foreign currency counterfeits and the percentage change from last year are best illustrated if
expressed in euros, as shown in Chart 6.

3. Ratio of counterfeit dinar to foreign currency banknotes

Chart 7 shows the ratio of detected dinar to foreign currency counterfeits (in terms of the number of pieces).

The number of dinar counterfeits (83.3%) detected during the period reviewed by far exceeded that of foreign currency counterfeits.
In nominal terms, the share of individual currencies in total foreign currency counterfeits is best illustrated if expressed in euros, as shown in Chart 8.

Euro counterfeits accounted for the largest number of detected counterfeits
(45.7%), followed by the dinar (38%) and the US dollar (14.8).
