Founded in 2005, Slough-based joinery business DPT Ltd is established as a trusted provider of carpentry and joinery services in the London and Home Counties region.

The family-run business has come a long way since founder Denis Treacy set up the Ltd company almost 20 years ago, initially commandeering his daughter's bedroom as office space in the family home.

Now directly employing a core team of 16, but with an extensive network of up to 70 long-serving self-employed contractors over the London area, Denis's business has evolved into a large-scale operation yet remains at its heart a family-run business.

His daughter, Niamh, formally joined the team in 2017, becoming a company director in 2022, while Denis's son-in law runs operations as the company's Contracts Manager. Today, the business provides a range of joinery services for a diverse customer base, from local authorities to blue chip companies, as well as the Royal household. Specialising in projects as varied as the design and build of commercial reception and lobby areas, pre-designed truss roofs, Grade 1 & 2 listed timber refurbishments as well as fire-rated external timber cladding, demand for DPT's services and expertise has accelerated.

Support for expansion

To accommodate this growth, in 2019 an opportunity arose to re-locate from their then Uxbridge workshop to larger premises in Slough. The business approached NatWest Group to support the expansion, financing the purchase of the new premises. In 2021, having become a fully certified fire door manufacturer, installer and maintenance contractor, it was clear further expansion was required.

'Our location gave us an ideal base from which to serve the Greater London area,' explained Niamh, 'so we were reluctant to move.' A chance discussion with a neighbouring business provided an opportunity to purchase the adjoining commercial unit. Again, NatWest Group was asked to support the property purchase. 'With approximately 40,000 square feet of office and workshop space now available we've been able to expand our manufacturing facilities. We can now provide on-site training and CPD courses saving many of our operatives, installers and clients long journeys to similar businesses in the north of England.'

Looking to the future, DPT also works with local higher education providers to offer Site Carpentry and Joinery level 2 apprenticeships, as well as the more advanced level 3 apprenticeship programme aimed at future site managers. 'We're acutely aware that your business is only as good as your team,' added Niamh. 'Whether offering local school leavers work placement opportunities, or investing in our apprentices, we want to develop the in-house expertise and knowledge to help support our future, grow turnover and upscale our operation.'
