(Reuters) - Europe's largest copper producer Aurubis AG reported on Wednesday first-half core profit above expectations, with lower electricity and gas prices helping its result.
Aurubis' first-half core profit, also known as operating earnings before taxes, of 243 million euros ($260.96 million), up 2% on the same time last year, beat the consensus estimate of 233 million euros expected in a company poll.
Second-quarter core profit, at 132 million euros, increased 16% compared with the same period last year.
